Neither team was able to dent the net as Medina/Lyndonville and host Newfane battled to a 0-0 tie in double overtime this afternoon in a key Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game.

The tie leaves Medina/Lyndonville at 7-2-1 in N-O action and keeps the Mustangs just ahead of a trio of close title challengers including Newfane (6-3-1), Wilson (6-3) and Akron (6-3), a 7-3 victor over CSAT (0-9).

Both goalies, Medina/Lyndonville’s Justin Morgan and Newfane’s Tyler Ribbeck, made a number of key saves.

The Mustangs defense also came up big on several occasions including a pair of big plays by Collin Dunn who backed up Morgan and made a couple of key clears in the goal mouth.

The Mustangs next host Akron at 3 p.m. Saturday and then close out the N-O campaign at Roy-Hart on October 16.

Akron was sparked by three goals by Albert Wanstrup and two by Bryan Witbeck.

In one non league game, Albion dropped a 2-0 decision at Byron-Bergen.
