Mustangs nip Rams in key N-O contest

Closing to within a game of first place, defending champion Medina/Lyndonville nipped Roy-Hart 1-0 this evening in a key Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game at Vets Park that was ended with 20 minutes to go in the second half due to thunder and lightning.

Casey Winiecki scored the lone goal for the Mustangs just 1:54 into the first half off an assist from Russ Stephens.

The Mustangs almost doubled their lead later in the half but misfired on a penalty kick opportunity.

The victory improves Medina/Lyndonville’s record to 4-3 while Roy-Hart slips into a first place tie with Akron at 6-2.

Akron downed Albion 6-1 as Joseph Abrams led the Tigers offense with two goals.

Tony Freeman scored Albion’s goal off an assist from Jahmeek Riley.

Newfane 2, Wilson 1 

Jeremy Foltz and Deuce Capen scored the goals for Newfane (4-4) as the Panthers trimmed Wilson (3-4) in another N-O contest halted after halftme by thunder and lightning.

Going for the ball, Medina/Lyndonville’s Nate Dillenbeck hurdles Roy-Hart goalie Brad Voelker. Dom Peracciny moves in for the Rams.
