Mustangs net key victory over Rams

Avenging an earlier season loss, Medina stayed in the thick of the Niagara-Orleans League tennis title race with a 3-2 1/2 victory over visiting Roy-Hart this afternoon.

The Mustangs improve to 7-1 while the Rams, which won the earlier meeting by that identical score of 3-2 1/2, slip to 5-3.

Medina’s deciding point was earned by Haylee Seefeldt at second singles with a marathon three set 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 win over Collin Dodge.

The Mustangs swept the singles as Ray Paull defeated Cameron VanBuren 6-0, 6-1 at first singles and Kody Leno downed Dominic Pericciny 6-3, 7-6 at third singles.

Roy-Hart took the three doubles matches as Michael and Jason Kuchey defeated Jonathan Pietrafesa and Andrew Houseman 6-4, 7-6; Aspen Moore and Kayla Hagen downed Ben Zakes and Carter Green 7-6, 6-4 and Jose Campos and Mya Quinn topped Emma Baldwin and Isabelle Ramsey 6-1, 6-1.

Defending champion Akron stayed undefeated at 7-0 by downing Barker 5 1/2-0 behind victories by the singles trio of Nate Chubb, Will Chubb and Morgan Wdowka.

Medina will face Akron in a key home and home series next week.

Holley 5, Pembroke 0

Holley evened its Genesee Region League record at 2-2 by blanking Pembroke 5-0.

Aaron Strathearn, Cheyan Palmer and Kristina Yaroshchuk all scored singles wins for the Hawks which also got doubles victories by the duos of Erik Balys-Kory Puente and Eli Bibby-Cora Bennage.
