Mustangs, Lakemen tuneup for key Friday showdown by posting victories

Medina and Wilson both scored victories this evening to remain deadlocked for first place heading into Friday’s key battle for the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball lead.

Staying unbeaten at 5-0, Medina defeated host Akron 53-44 and Wilson downed visiting Roy-Hart 44-34.

Tyler Chinn scored 14, Vincent Montague 10, Izaiah Rhim 9 and Brian Fry and Nate Sherman 8 each to lead Medina’s balanced attack.

The Mustangs led 31-21 at the half as Chinn tallied 9, Montague 8 and Rhim 7 over the first two periods.

Ian Evans scored 14 and Steve Frerichs 12 to set the pace for Wilson.

Trailing 37-34 after three-quarters, Wilson outscored Roy-Hart 10-2 in the final stanza to claim the win as Jake Miller and Evans had key late buckets.

Lance Krieger scored 16 and Charlie Brigham 15 for Roy-Hart.
