Mustangs in soccer semifinals Saturday

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Medina/Lyndonville’s Kristian Snyder and his Mustang teammates will face Lafayette Saturday in the Section VI Class B2 semifinals at Sweet Home.

No. 7 seed Medina/Lyndonville (12-6) will face No. 6 Lafayette (9-6) in the semifinall round of the Section VI Class B2 boys soccer playoffs at 5 p.m. Saturday at Sweet Home.

The Mustangs blanked No. 2 MST Seneca 3-0 in the quarterfinals while Lafayette edged Wilson 3-2.

The Mustangs have been sparked offensively by Kristian Snyder, who has scored a school record 27 goals, along with Ethan Leonard (6 goals, 13 assists) and Vassilios Bitsas (6 goals, 11 assists).

The victor will advance to next Wednesday’s B2 final against the winner of the No. 1 Lackawanna vs. No. 4 Southwestern semi.

Also on Saturday, both the Niagara-Orleans League champion Newfane boys and girls teams will be involved in the Section VI Class B1 semifinals. The No. 3 boys squad will face No. 2 East Aurora at noon at Sweet Home while the No. 3 girls team will take on No. 7 Alden at 4 p.m. at Williamsville North.

In the Section VI Class B2 girls semis No. 4 Akron will face No. 1 Tonawanda at 4 p.m. at Williamsville North.

Saturday’s soccer competition will also have both the Holley boys and Kendall girls teams competing in Section V quarterfinal round contests.

No. 4 seed Holley (12-2-3) will host No. 5 Geneseo (13-3-1) at 7 p.m. in the Section V Class C1 playoffs.

Holley advanced to the semis by nipping No. 13 LeRoy in the quarterfinals while Geneseo romped past No. 12 Addison 7-0.

No. 5 Kendall (12-5) will take on No. 4 Northstar (13-4) in the Section V Class D1 playoffs at Grace and Truth Sports Park at 2:30 p.m.

Kendall nipped No. 12 Lyndonville in the quarterfinals while Northstar trimmed No. 13 Jasper-Troupsburg 2-1.
