Mustangs hand Lancers first setback

Regaining the .500 mark at 3-3, Medina knocked host Elba from the ranks of the unbeaten by posting a 62-50 victory this evening in a non league boys basketball game.

Jalin Cooper poured in a career high 34 points to spearhead the Medina offense as Johnny Salone tallied 15, Izaiah Rhim 7, Tryellis Atkins 4 and Vincent Montague 2.

Collin O’Hallaran scored 16 to lead Elba which is now 4-1.

Trailing 18-14 after one period, Medina used a 16-10 second period scoring edge to rally into a 30-28 half-time advantage. Cooper scored 7 and Salone 5 to lead that rally.

Cooper then erupted for 14 points to lead a 20-12 third period surge which upped the Mustangs lead to 50-40 at the three-quarter mark.

The Mustangs then outpointed the Lancers 12-10 down the stretch to lock up the win,

Medina also defeated Elba in the JV game 61-44 as Brian Fry scored 17 and Nate Sherman, Nasir Shine and Emmanuel Taylor 11 each.
