Surviving a fourth quarter scare, Medina/Lyndonville scored a 44-30 Homecoming victory over University Prep of Rochester in a non league game this evening at Vets Park.

Up 36-8 after three quarters, Medina/Lyndonville saw U Prep come storming back with a quick burst of three touchdowns on a 23 yard run, a 70 yard pass interception and a 31 yard pass play within a span of five minutes to slice the Mustangs lead to 36-30 with 6:28 remaining.

Turning back the challenge, the Mustangs finally put a lock on the win when quarterback Izaiah Rhim threw his fifth touchdown pass of the night, a 19 yard toss to Eric Neace with 2:10 remaining. Rhim added the two-point conversion carry to make the final score 44-30. A 35 yard run by Jake Cotter ignited that decisive drive.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 22-8 half-time advantage after a three touchdown burst in the second quarter on a pair of Rhim to Jalin Cooper pass plays covering 20 and 26 yards and a 1 yard scoring run by Neace. Rhim also ran for one two-point conversion and passed to Neace for another during that stretch.

The Mustangs lead ballooned to 36-8 in the third quarter as Rhim threw touchdown passes of 9 yards to Brendan Luthart, who made an outstanding leaping catch in the back of the end zone, and 52 yards to Cooper. Neace added the two-point conversion run after the first TD.

Lucas Porter highlighted the Mustangs defensive effort by intercepting three passes, two of which set up touchdowns.

Now at 4-0 overall, Medina/Lyndonville next visits Depew next Friday in a B East Division contest.

The loss drops U Prep to 2-2.
