A tie wasn’t quite enough as the Medina Mustangs FC battled to a scoreless draw with the Buffalo Cosmos in a key regular season ending game at Vets Park Sunday evening to determine the Buffalo District Soccer League’s 3rd Division regular season champion.
By battling to a 0-0 tie the Mustangs and Cosmos finish the regular season tied for the division lead both with a total of 22 points. The Mustangs finish at 7-2-1 and the Cosmos 6-0-4.
However, league rules state that in the event of a tie the first tie breaker to determine the division champion is best goal differential. That tiebreaker gives the championship to the Cosmos which had a goal differential of 11 (24 goals scored and 13 allowed) just one better than the Mustangs which had a goal differential of 10 (23 goals scored and 13 goals allowed).
Both team now advance to the 3rd Division playoffs.
