Mustangs edge past Panthers
Maintaining sole possession of first place, Medina edged past host Newfane 59-56 this evening in a key Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game.
Improving to 7-0 in N-O action, Medina maintains a one game lead over runner-up Roy-Hart (7-1), which downed host CSAT (2-5) 48-43.
In the other N-O contests, Wilson regained the .500 mark at 4-4 by defeating visiting Albion (4-3) 61-54 and Barker (3-5) downed Akron (0-7) 55-31.
Medina jumped out to a 17-9 first quarter lead over Newfane as Justin Morgan hit two threes and Tyler Ames and Jared Zinkievich both added a pair of rebound baskets.
Morgan finished with a total of 12 while Ames and Zinkieivch both netted 9 as did Jalin Cooper.
The Mustangs maintained leads of 34-22 at the half and 44-36 at the three-quarter mark.
Daryl Haynes scored all 14 of his points in the second half to help keep Medina on top.
Max Weber scored 16, Kyle DeVoogel 13 and Chad Gilson 11 for Newfane which slips to 3-5.
Wilson 61, Albion 54
Alex Fox scored 19,, Ryan Bradley 14 and Andrew Eames 12 to lead Wilson to the 61-54 victory over Albion.
Breaking away from a 14-14 deadlock at the end of the first quarter, the Lakemen opened up leads of 29-22 at the half and 43-33 at the three-quarter mark.
Tommy Mattison and Evan Pappalardo both scored 16 and Kory Reynolds 12 for Albion.
Roy-Hart 48, CSAT 43
Andy Xapsos poured in a game high 26 points and Chris Anderson added 10 to lead Roy-Hart past host CSAT 48-43.
Roy-Hart held a narrow 26-24 lead at the half as Xapsos scored 8 in the second period.
CSAT rallied into a 33-33 tie at the three-quarter mark but Roy-Hart answered the challenge by outscoring the Eagles 15-10 in the final period, including 7 by Xapsos.
Barker 55, Akron 31
Eddie Wasnock scored 22 and Nate Luckman 17 to pace Barker past Akron 55-31.
Austin Ladd led Akron with 18.
Barker built up a 28-15 half-time advantage as Wasnock helped ignited that surge by scoring 11 in the first quarter.
The Raiders then used a big 26-12 third period scoring edge, including 8 by Luckman, to put a lock on the victory.
