Mustangs edge Blue Devils in diamond opener

Medina trimmed Batavia 2-1 in the Mustangs non league season opener at Vets Park this afternoon.

The Mustangs picked up the only two runs they needed as it turned out in the third inning on an RBI double by Aidan Papaj and an error. Another error and a single by Vinny Gray set up the opportunity.

Medina left the bases loaded in the fourth frame and a runner stranded at third in the sixth.

The Blue Devils lone run came in the sixth inning.

A trio of pitchers combined to hurl a three hitter for the Mustangs. Julian Woodworth pitched the first two innings striking out 4. Papaj hurled the middle three frames fanning 4 and Brody Fry the final two innings with 2 strikeouts.

Medina is next scheduled to host Alexander at 5 p.m. Tuesday in another non league contest.
