Mustangs earn top seed for football sectionals

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Medina/Lyndonville’s Lucas Porter (3) and his Mustang teammates will host Lackawanna on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Section VI Class B playoffs.

Top seed B East Division champion Medina/Lyndonville (6-1) will host No. 8 Lackawanna (4-3) in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B football playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Vets Park.

The contest will be a rematch of a week 2 encounter which saw the Mustangs down the Steelers 48-6 at Lackawanna.

The victor will advance to the semifinals against the winner of Friday’s No. 5 Maryvale (6-1) at No. 4 Dunkirk (5-2) quarterfinal game.

Friday’s other Class B quarterfinal contests will have No. 7 Burgard (4-3) at No. 2 Cheektowaga (7-0) and No. 6 Alden (5-2) at No. 3 Olean (7-0).

Also on Friday evening, Albion will host Lew-Port and Barker/Roy-Hart will entertain Pioneer at 7 p.m. in non league games. The Purple Eagles will be looking to avenge a narrow 26-25 season opening loss to the Lancers at Lew-Port.

In the Section V Class C Conners & Ferris Bowl semifinals Holley will host Wayland-Cohocton at 4 p.m. Thursday. The victor will face the winner of the Dansville vs. Mynderse game in the finals.
