Mustangs down Raiders in N-O opener

Moving on top to stay in the second quarter Medina went on to defeat visiting Barker 60-37 this evening in the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball season opener.

Breaking away from a 10-10 deadlock at the end of the opening quarter, Medina erupted for an 18-6 run over the first six minutes of the decisive second period.

Back-to-back layups by Tyler Chinn followed by a jumper and a three by Joe Cecchini ignited that uprising which also included a three by Brian Fry as the Mustangs opened up a 12 point, 28-16 lead.

Barker though closed the quarter with five unanswered points by Joey Brandt to cut the deficit to seven, 28-21, at the half.

A late three by Fry helped Medina maintain a nine point, 39-30, advantage at the three-quarter mark.

The Mustangs finally broke the contest open with s 12-5 run over the first four minutes of the final period to take a 16 point, 51-35 lead.

A three by Fry opened that uprising which also featured back-to-back three-point plays by Christian Drisdom and Fry.

Fry finished with a game high 21 points as Chinn had 10, Cecchini 9, Jarin Rhim and Drisdom 8 and Dontae Rhim and David Rhim 2 each.

Brandt led Barker with 12 as Shane Gerhardt added 7, Brad Cantrell 6, Cole Ecker 4, Nicholas Guevara and Nathan Meza-Ray 3 and Logan Harris 2.

Medina next visits Akron and Barker visits Wilson on Tuesday.
