Mustangs down Lakemen to extend win streak

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Medina’s Justin Pitts scored a game high 24, including this three to close the first half, leading the Mustangs to a 63-54 home court win over Wilson this evening.

Making it three wins in a row, Medina downed visiting Wilson 63-54 in a Niagara-Orleans League game this evening.

Justin Pitts poured in a season high 24 points, including five threes, to lead the Medina attack. Preston Woodworth added 14, Jerrell Nealy 9, Cole Callard 6, Christian Moss 4 and Elijah Doxey and Alex Benz 3 each.

Blake Martin scored 19 and Aidan Neumann 18 to lead Wilson as Ryan Hough added 8, Brock Lepsch 4, Jack Mahar 3 and Connor Peck 2.

Medina grabbed a 20-16 first quarter lead as Nealy scored 8 and Pitts, Woodworth and Benz all hit threes, the later coming in the final second.

Martin hit two threes and Neumann and Mahar one each during that stretch to keep Wilson close.

The Mustangs increased their lead a bit to 8, 36-28, at the half as Pitts had two threes, Woodworth one and Callard a three-point play in the second stanza. Pitts’ second three came at the buzzer.

The Lakemen did close to within one, 38-37, early in the third period after two threes by Neumann and one by Martin but could get no closer.

The Mustangs answered with a key 12-2 run to close the period and regain an 11 point, 50-39 advantage at the three-quarter mark. Woodworth scored the first eight during that run on two threes and a two and Pitts added the final four on a pair of buckets.

Two more threes by Pitts and one by Callard helped Medina increase its lead to 16, 61-45, with 3:30 remaining in the final period.

Medina improves to 3-2 in N-O action and Wilson slips to 2-4.
