Pulling away in the late innings, Medina completed a home-and-home sweep over rival Albion on back-to-back days as the Mustangs downed the host Purple Eagles 10-2 this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Medina, which also downed Albion 15-1 at Vets Park Monday evening, improves to 6-0 and remains deadlocked for the N-O lead with Roy-Hart which defeated Barker 24-0.

Leading by a narrow 3-2 margin, Medina opened up a little breathing room by scoring twice in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run double by Zach Fike. A single by winning pitcher Xander Payne and an intentional walk to Brian Fry set up the threat.

The Mustangs then put a lock on the win by erupting for five runs in the seventh inning on a fielders choice play off the bat of Aiden Paul, an error, a sacrifice fly by Payne, a wild pitch and a solo home run by Fry.  A hit batter, a walk and a bunt single by Alex Doval loaded the bases to set up the opportunity.

Medina also got off to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on a bases loaded walk but Albion pulled even in the second on an RBI sacrifice fly by Mason Bennett. A walk and a double by Austin Aman set up the threat.

The Mustangs regained the lead for good at 2-1 on an RBI double by Austin Mosher in the third inning and upped the advantage to 3-1 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Fike.

Albion did cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Alex Gibson but the Purple Eagles could not pull even as runners were left stranded at second and third. Singles by Amari Jones and Javon Jones set up the opportunity.

Fry had a total of 3 hits and Fike 2 for the Mustangs while Aman had 2 for the Purple Eagles.

The Mustangs defense turned a double play in the sixth inning keyed by Fike at first and Fry at short.

Payne pitched the first six innings for the Mustangs scattering 7 hits and striking out 8. AJ Seefeldt hurled the seventh striking out 1.

Albion’s Javon Jones slides into third base as Medina’s Joe Cecchini readies to get the ball.

Roy-Hart 24, Barker 0

Ethan Kuzma had 4 hits, Braydon Hy and John Conley 3, and Jake Gould, Hunter Babel and Noah Stern 2 each to lead the offense for Roy-Hart.

Akron 7, Wilson 1

A six run fifth inning scoring burst highlighted by a triple by Kyle Swift keyed Akron (2-2) to the 7-1 win over Wilson (3-4).

N-O Standings: Medina 6-0, Roy-Hart 6-0, Newfane 3-2, Wilson 3-4, Akron 2-2, Albion 0-5, Barker 0-7.
