Mustangs complete sweep of Purple Eagles; Rams and Raiders score wins

Completing a home-and-home season series sweep, Medina blanked rival Albion 5-0 in a Niagara-Orleans League game this afternoon at Albion.

In the other N-O games, front-running Roy-Hart stayed undefeated at 5-0 by downing Newfane (1-5) 9-1 and Barker (2-5) upended Akron (5-2) 5-3.

Zach Fike hurled the shutout on the mound scattering 3 hits and striking out 12 as Medina improves to 5-1 in N-O action.

Xander Payne, Joe Cecchini and Aidan Paul each banged out a pair of hits to lead the Mustangs at the plate.

Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Medina grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Payne singled in the first run after an error and a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Kroening set up the opportunity. Then, after a sacrifice bunt by Hayden Woodroe, a walk and an intentional walk loaded the bases, Cecchini banged out a two run single.

The Mustangs tacked on two big insurance runs in the fifth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Fike and Paul. A leadoff single by Payne ignited the uprising.

Cade Wolcott had a double and Amari Jones and Javon Jones singles for Albion which slips to 1-4.

Albion’s Dallas Ecker tags out Medina’s Aidan Paul at third base.

Roy-Hart 9, Newfane 1
Ryan Mettler hurled a 3 hitter with 12 strikeouts for Roy-Hart while Brayden Hy led the way at the plate with 4 hits, including a double and triple, and 5 RBIs.

John Conley and Nathan Beyer also each had 2 hits and Mettler a double for the Rams which scored in five different innings.

Barker 5, Akron 3
Aidan Voss got out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning by registering two clutch game inning strikeouts to earn Barker the victory. He had a total of 8 strikeouts on the afternoon.

Voss, Drew Sandolfini and Noah Sandolfini each had a pair of hits for the Raiders.

Voss and Drew Sandolfini had RBI singles in the first inning to put Barker on top to stay.
