Mustangs blitz Rams; Purple Eagles top Tigers

Exploding out to an 18 point first quarter lead, Medina romped to an 87-40 victory over host Roy-Hart this afternoon as the Mustangs improve to 4-1 in Niagara-Orleans League competition.

The Mustangs had a total of five players in double figures as Tyler Chinn netted 20, Brian Fry 18 and Jarin Rhim, Matt Henning and David Berry 10 each as Joe Cecchini added 9, Ricky Wood 8 and Hayden Woodroe 2.

Bryan Baes scored 9 and Aiden Petrie 8 to pace Roy-Hart as Gavyn Boyle had 6, Vincent Buscarino and Joel Kubas 4, Rhett Goodwin, John Conley and Dominick Beyer 3 each.

Leading by a narrow 12-8 margin, Medina began to break the contest open by closing the opening period with a 14-0 run to take a 26-8 lead.

Chinn had a layup off a steal, a three and a layup during that key surge which also included baskets by Fry and Rhim.

Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs went on to outscore the Rams 24-12 in the second period to open up a commanding 30 point, 50-20, advantage at the half.

Berry had three baskets and Chinn, Fry, Henning and Wood all hit threes in the second period.

The Medina lead soared to 42 at 69-27 at the end of the third period which saw the Mustangs outpoint the Rams 19-7.  Fry scored six and Chinn and Rhim each netted four in the stanza.

Medina next visits Wilson and Roy-Hart, which slips to 1-4, hosts Albion on Tuesday.

Albion 45, Akron 34

Trailing 5-3 after the opening period, Albion outscored Akron 14-4 in the second quarter to key the 45-34 win.

Bailey Blanchard scored six and Jahmeek Riley and Damion Lattimer both added four in the second period as Albion moved out to a 17-9  halftime advantage.

The Purple Eagles maintained a 10 point, 29-19, lead at the three-quarter mark and then used 9 of 11 free throw shooting in the final period to lock up the win.

Blanchard and Tony Freeman each scored five and Riley four in the final stanza.

Blanchard finished with 14, Riley 8, Lattimer and Freeman 7 each, Tyler Gibson 6, Christian Doty 2 and Chris Shabazz 1.

Adam Mietz led Akron with 12

Albion and Akron are now both 3-2 in N-O action.

Newfane 52, Barker 28

Front-running Newfane stayed undefeated at 5-0 with a 52-28 win over Barker.

Sam Capen scored 15 and Michael Carmer 10 for the Panthers which led 26-15 at the half.

Shane Gerhardt scored 9 and Joey Brandt 8 for Barker which is now 1-5.
