In a key late season clash of unbeatens, defending champion Medina blanked Roy-Hart 9-0 at Gasport this evening to take over sole possession of the Niagara-Orleans League lead.
Medina, which will host Roy-Hart in a rematch at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vets Park, stays unbeaten at 9-0 (10-0 overall) while the Rams slip to 7-1.
Zach Fike went the distance on the mound for Medina hurling a one hitter with 9 strikeouts.
Roy-Hart’s lone hit was a first inning double by Gavyn Boyle but he was tagged out at second on a nice relay from Corey Saj to Brian Fry to Aiden Paul.
Medina had grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI triple by Fike and a run producing single by Joe Cecchini.
The Mustangs quickly made it 4-0 in the second inning on two out RBI singles by Fry and Fike as a single by Xander Payne started the uprising.
Fry later had an RBI triple in the fourth inning and an error plated a solo run in the sixth upping the Medina lead to 6-0.
The Mustangs capped off the win with three tallies in the seventh on a balk, an error and a sacrifice by Paul. A walk and singles by Cecchini and Austin Mosher loaded the bases to set up the opportunity.
Akron 15, Albion 2
Improving to 5-3, Akron downed Albion (3-6) 15-2 as Jake Mazza had 4 hits including two triples and six RBIs.
Winning pitcher Jack Klodzinski, Adam Mietz and Mitch Holtz each added 2 hits for the Tigers.
Newfane 17, Barker 7
Brady Harrington pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts to lead Newfane (4-6) past Barker (0-12).
Cade Littman hit a two-run home run for the Panthers as Gehrig Wilson had 4 hits and Trevor Heschke and Tyler Baes 3 each.

Medina’s Austin Mosher is tagged out a third base by Roy-Hart’s Ryan Mettler.
