Mustangs blank Lakemen to win N-O title outright as Fry hurls a no hitter

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Brody Fry threw a no hitter as Medina locked up sole possession of the Niagara-Orleans League championship with a 2-0 win at Wilson this afternoon.

Junior Brody Fry pitched a no hitter to spark Medina to a key 2-0 victory over host Wilson this afternoon as the Mustangs locked up outright posession of the Niagara-Orleans League baseball championship.

Aidan Papaj accounted for both Medina runs.

Fry, who faced only 22 batters. allowed no hits and no walks while striking out 8.

Wilson’s only runner came via an error to open the bottom of the first inning. Fry retired the next 21 Lakemen batters in a row.

Medina scored the game’s only two runs in the sixth inning. Freshman Aidan Papaj singled to drive in what proved to be the game winning run and came home on an error for the insurance tally.

Tyler Johnston went the distance on the mound for Wilson allowing 5 hits and striking out 7.

Medina, which has now captured or shared the N-O title three of the last four years, improves to 10-1 in league action while Wilson slips into third place at 7-4.

The Mustangs won the N-O title outright in 2021 going 12-0 and shared the crown with Roy-Hart in 2022 going 10-2.

Medina will close out the N-O season by hosting Wilson at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Vets Park.
