Inching closer to locking up the title, Medina bested Akron 11-4 in a rainy Niagara-Orleans League baseball game at Vets Park this evening.

The victory boosts Medina’s N-O leading record to 8-2 with just two games remaining, against Barker on Wednesday and Wilson on Saturday, both at Vets Park. The loss drops Akron to 5-4 and into third place behind defending champion Roy-Hart and Wilson, both at 5-2.

Medina jumped out to a 4-0 lead by scoring one in the second inning on a fielders choice play off the bat of Xander Payne, once in the third on an error and twice in the fourth on an error and an RBI single by AJ Seefeldt,

Akron though battled back to briefly knot the contest at 4-4 by tallying four times in the fifth on an RBI single by David Kalinowski and three wild pitches.

However, Medina answered the challenge by scoring three times in the sixth on an RBI single by Chris Goyette and two wild pitches to regain the lead for good at 7-4.

The Mustangs then put a lock on the victory by scoring four times in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Corey Saj, two bases loaded walks and a wild pitch.

It was Akron’s home game but was moved to Vets due to wet field conditions at Akron.

The Albion vs. Newfane and Roy-Hart vs. Barker games were both postponed due to the rainy weather.

Medina will host Barker at 7 p.m. Wednesday in what will be the Raiders home game. The other games will have Roy-Hart at Albion and Akron at Wilson.
