Mustangs and Purple Eagles will face familiar foes in Friday’s sectional playoff openers
Both teams will be facing familiar foes when Medina and Albion open Section VI football playoff competition on Friday.
Top seeded two time defending champion Medina will host No. 8 Eden at 7 p.m. in a Class C quarterfinal. It will be the third straight time that the Mustangs have hosted the Raiders in the sectional opener. The Mustangs won the first two meetings in lopsided fashion by scores of 54-6 and 30-14.
No. 6 seed Albion will visit No. 3 Pioneer in a Class B quarterfinal at 7 p.m.. It will be a rematch of a regular season contest which was the Purple Eagles defeat the host Panthers 22-16.
Medina, which brings a 7-1 record into the sectionals, is led offensively by running backs Noah Skinner (1,224 yards rushing , 22 touchdowns), Cayden Lilleby (204 yards rushing, 5 TDs; 171 yards receiving, 3 TD), Amari Soule (256 yards rushing, 3 TD) and quarterback Aiden Pitts (686 yards passing, 7 TDs).
Eden, which is 4-4, is paced on the ground by quarterback Matt Sweet (829 yards, 10 TDs) and running backs Brendon O’Donnell (486 yards, 4 TDs) and Billy Yohn (220 yards, 3 TD). Sweet has also passed for 499 yards and 4 TDs.
Albion, which is 6-2 and riding a six game winning streak, is led by quarterback Amari Jones who has passed for 953 yards and 12 TDs and rushed for 578 yards and 7 TDs. His favorite target is his brother, Javon, who has caught 27 passes for 498 yards and 8 TDs. Javon has also rushed for 283 yards and 3 TDs while Jacob Hughson had 229 yards rushing and 5 TDs.
Pioneer, which is also 6-2, is paced by running backs Kyle Stover (690 yards rushing and 8 TDs, 170 yards receiving and 4 TDs) and Dalton Giboo (467 yards rushing and 6 TDs). Quarterback Gavin Schwab has passed for 354 yards and 7 TDs.
In Section V 8 Man Division quarterfinal playoff action No. 6 Holley will visit No. 3 Bolivar-Richburg at 7 p.m. Friday.

Section VI goes on line for sectional tickets
Section VI will only be selling tickets to the sectional football playoff games on-line. The ticket prices for this weekend’s quarterfinal games is $7.
