Looking to rebound from last spring’s 1-8 division record (7-10 overall), the Medina High varsity lacrosse squad returns a large veteran continent including no less than 10 starters.

That returning group of starters includes attackmen Aaron Feltz, a senior, and Tyler Valley, a junior; midfielders Brett Pecoraro (Sr.), Nick DiPadova (Sr.), Greg Husung (Jr.) Dylan Lewis (Jr.) and Jake Cotter (So.); defenders Kalvin Packer (Jr.) and Charlie Enderby (Jr.) and goalie Adam Cotter (Sr.).

Valley scored 43 goals last season, Pecoraro 32, Jake Cotter 16 and Feltz 9. Feltz also dished out 31 assists and Valley 13.

“We return a lot but we’re still a young team,” said Coach Gordy Luthart. “We’ve got a good mix of veterans and young players and I think we’ll really work well together as a team.”

The Mustangs attack and midfield areas also look for contributions from the freshman duo of Brendan Luthart and Mason Lewis while on defense the roster also includes seniors Bryce Bellan, Brock Rosenberg, Mike Hinkley and Tom Winters along with juniors Trent Cotriss, Baylee Vercruysse, David Moore and Brooklyn Moore. Senior Andrew Nichols and junior Coda Kenyon are also working at the goal position.

“We’ve got three goalies and I really think that works to our advantage to be able to keep everyone fresh,” said Luthart. “Offensively we can score and I think this year it will be more of a group effort in scoring. The key will be on defense. We are in a very competitive, high scoring division so defensively we’re going to have to really step up.”

Medina’s key losses to graduation were high scoring midfielder Kyle Barna (64 goals, 34 assists) and defenseman Nate Hodgins.

The Mustangs are scheduled to scrimmage Brockport on Saturday and then open the season at home against Lockport on March 26 in a non league game.
