Mustang spikers down Lady Tigers

Jumping out to big leads in both of the first two sets, Medina went on to defeat visiting Lyndonville 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 this evening in a non league volleyball match.

Medina built up an early 17-4 lead in the opening set as Faith Henning served up points 4-10 and Leah Sheelar 14-17. Je’ne Brown had 2 spiking kills and Alyssa Beyer 1 during that stretch.

Lyndonville did battle back to within four at 17-13 as Skyler Lear served up points 6-13, a run which was capped off by back-to-back kills by Alecia Hinkson and Cassidy Boyce.

However, Medina turned back the challenge on an ace by Grace Masse for point 19 and then kills by Maddie Williams for point 20, Beyer for 21 and Brown for 25.

Likewise in the second set Medina grabbed an early 13-5 lead as Brown had 3 kills and Williams 2 during that stretch.

Lyndonville though again came rallying back to cut the deficit to 13-10 as Lear served up points 7-10.

Again the Mustangs answered the challenge, this time with a key six point run of points by Williams (15-20), a run which included a pair of aces and upped the Medina lead to 20-10.

Beyer served up the final two points registering a ace for the set winner.

Leading by a narrow 9-8 margin in the third set, Medina pulled away to a 21-11 advantage as Williams served up points 10-12 (2 aces), Elle Gross 14-17 (3 aces) and Henning 19-21.

A three point run by Boyce (15-17) did pull Lyndonvile back to within 23-17 but the Lady Tigers could get no closer.

Brown had 6 kills on the night, Williams 3 and Beyer 2 for Medina while Cassie Maynard and Hinkson both had 2 for Lyndonville.

Williams also had 4 aces, Gross 3 and Henning 2 for the Mustangs and Natalie Ostrowski 2 for the Lady Tigers.

Both teams will be in action again on Tuesday as Medina hosts Newfane in a Niagara-Orleans League match and Lyndonville entertains Holley in a Genesee Region League match.

Improving to 8-9, Kendall scored a straight set 25-10, 25-21, 25-13 victory over visiting Rochester Prep in a non league match.

Jenna Regan had 7 kills and 2 aces, Brittney Marks 6 aces and 4 assists and Shianna Patten 13 of 13 from the service line including 4 aces for the Lady Eagles.
