Mustang spikers down Lady Hawks

Jumping out to big leads in both the second and third sets keyed Medina to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 victory over visiting Holley this evening in a non league season opening volleyball match.

A late run of five straight service points (17-21) by Molley Gross, a run which included four aces, sparked Medina to the opening set win.

The Mustangs then jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the second set as Emily Kams served up points 1-4 (2 aces), Carley Schultz 6-10 (3 aces) and Gross 12-14 (2 aces).

Holley did rally back to within 20-16 after back-to-back aces by Kayla Guck but the Lady Hawks could get no closer.

Likewise in the third set Medina jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead as Emma Ambrose served up seven straight aces.

A three point run of points by Ava Kohut helped rally Holley back to within one at 13-12 but the Lady Hawks could not pull even.

Medina answered with a key run of five straight service points by Kams (2 aces) to open up a 19-12 advantage.

Holley got a late four point run by Jessica Skehan to close to within 22-19 but could get no closer.

Alyssa Beyer served up the final two points for Medina registering a ace for No. 24. Nicole Blount followed up with a spiking kill for the game and match winner.

Ambrose and Gross both finished with a total of seven aces and Carley Schultz 5.

Blount led Medina in kills with 8 as Brittany Schultz, Gross and Ambrose each added 3.

Chelsea Norman and Skehan both had 2 aces for Holley.

Byron-Bergen 25-14-25-25, Albion 21-25-23-18
Albion dropped a four set decision to host Byron-Bergen in another non league match.

Byron-Bergen was led by the trio of Lauren Burke (29 assists, 4 aces, 4 digs), Abigail Kelley (15 kills, 10 digs) and Bryanna D’Agostino (4 kills, 1 block, 11 digs).

Chanyce Powell had 10 kills, 9 digs, 2 aces and 4 blocks for Albion as Kelsee Soule had 8 kills, 12 digs, 2 aces and 1 block; Sara Millspaugh 8 kills, 5 digs and 2 aces, Meghan Hurley 3 kills, 11 digs, 5 aces and 19 assists and Aleah Foos 6 kills and 3 blocks.
