Mustang netters win N-O opener

Three-time defending champion Medina opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League tennis title by defeating visiting Newfane 5-1/2 this afternoon.

Kristian Snyder, Tristan Sanders and Brian Bogan scored straight set victories in singles competition to lead the way for the Mustangs.

Snyder defeated Jeff Hamm 6-1, 6-2; Sanders downed Jeremy Ribbeck 6-0, 7-5 and Bogan blanked Nick Kozial 6-0, 6-0.

Medina took the first doubles match as Nick Dieter and Michael Cardone downed Casey Gregory and Zach Russell 6-2, 6-3.

The Mustangs also took the second doubles as Brandon Harris and Xion Baes downed Joel Swogier and Delaney Wasik 6-2, 7-5.

Newfane won the third doubles match as Whitney Atkins and Terell Atkins downed Tom Horgan and Austin Owens 6-2, 6-2.

In the other N-O openers, Wilson edged Albion 3-2 and Barker and Akron had their match halted by rain with the contest deadlocked at 2-2.

Holley 5, Byron-Bergen 0

Holley improved its Genesee Region League record to 2-1 by blanking Byron-Bergen 5-0.

Brady Smith, Ian Penders and Jon Rusin all scored singles victories to set the pace for Holley.

The Hawks also got wins from the doubles teams of Hunter DeFelice – Ben Scott and Diana Yaroshuhuk and Andrew Spychalskii.
