Mustang netters down Raiders

Defending champion Medina blanked visiting Barker 5 1/2-0 this afternoon to improve to 3-0 in Niagara-Orleans League tennis competition.
In the other N-O matches, Wilson (2-1) nipped Albion (2-2) 3-2 1/2 and Akron (3-0) shutout Newfane (0-4) 5 1/2-0.
Leading the way for Medina were straight set singles victories by the trio of Mike Cardone, 6-2, 6-1 over Nick Fazzolari; Nick Bogan, 6-1, 6-0 over Jake Meister, and Kyla Leno, 6-0, 6-0 over Christian Young.
The Mustangs also got wins by the doubles teams of Toby Kiebala – Ray Paull over Nick Sutch – Jake Harris 6-1, 6-1; Able Zavitz – Andrew Fuller over Mia Gooding – Natalie Bruning 6-1, 6-1 and Brandon Harris – Coady Leno over Grace Harris – Marissa Jowdy 6-0, 6-0.
A sweep of the singles matches earned Wilson the win over Albion as Joey Hecko defeated Matt Kovaleski 6-1, 1-6, 6-2; Kyle Ryan downed Connor McQuillan 6-4, 6-1 and Mike Pazik outlasted Victor Benjovsky 6-1, 6-8, 6-3.
Albion took the three doubles matches as Owen Foos – Emilie Barleben defeated Alex Coutourier – Max Faery 6-3, 6-4; Kastrio Bela – Freeman Lattin downed Mia Olear – Joey Moote 6-3, 6-3 and Donato Rosario – Angel Rosario bested Rebecca Connor – Alyssa Smith 7-6, 6-7, 7-6.
Akron was sparked by singles victory by the trio of Nate Chubb, Jacob Meyer and Brandon Meek.
