The Medina JV boys basketball team followed up a highly successful campaign last year with a strong league record this year. Despite returning only four players from last years team due to many underclassmen getting promoted to varsity, the Mustangs finished with a 9-5 record in the Niagara-Orleans League and a 10-10 record overall.

All four returning players were key to the Mustangs’ success this season.

Sophomore Brendan Luthart led the team in scoring with 213 points (10.7 ave) including 25 three-point field goals. Luthart also led the team in assists, handing out 63 (3.2 ave).

Sophomore Trenton Jones added 170 points (8.9 ave) while shooting a team high 53% from the field and pulling down a team best 218 rebounds (11.5 ave).

Fellow sophomore Alex Allis contributed 148 points (7.4 ave) while knocking down a team high 31 three-point field goals.

The lone freshman returnee, Daemon Shatara added 95 points (5.3 ave) and 97 rebounds (5.4 ave).

Newcomers also were a key part of the Mustangs success.

Seventh grade point guard Brian Fry scored 123 points (6.2 ave), including 20 three-point field goals.

First year sophomores Jorge Phillips and Renee Masters provided rebounding and toughness, while freshmen Matt Hess and Jonathan Pietrafesa, eighth grader Nate Sherman, and seventh grader Tyler Chinn made important contributions as well.
