Mustang JV gridders edge Cleve Hill Eagles

The Medina/Lyndonville JV football team defeated Cleve Hill 22-16 on Saturday at Vets Park to regain a winning record, improving to 3-2 on the season.

Cleve Hill opened the scoring on their first possession of the game by running for a touchdown and a two point conversion.

The Mustangs were able to answer back when William Braswell broke lose for an 83 yard touchdown run to cut the Eagles lead to 8-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Mustangs then took the lead as time expired in the first half on a 44 yard pass from Zach Johnson to Braswell. Justice Hughes added the conversion run to make the score 14-8 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Cleve Hill was able to punch in a touchdown run from 4 yards out and add a conversion run to go up 16-14 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.

However, the Mustangs answered back with what proved to be the game winning touchdown on a 3 yard run by Johnson that was set up by runs of 21 and 13 yards by Braswell. Braswell also added the conversion to cap off a big day which included 163 rushing yards.

Hughes led the Mustangs defense with 12 tackles.

Medina next plays at Albion at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
