The Medina/Lyndonville JV football team defeated host Alden 22-18 on Thursday to improve their season record to 2-1.

Alden took a quick lead in the first quarter, with running back Colin Skowronski breaking free for a 64 yard touchdown run.

However, the Mustangs were able to answer back with a 10 yard touchdown run by Justice Hughes on the following possession. Hughes also ran for the two point conversion to give Medina a 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Alden added to their score in the second quarter when Skowronski ran for a second touchdown, this time from 43 yards out to give the Bulldogs a 12-8 lead at the half.

The lead was short lived, however, as the Mustangs were able to score on the first drive of the second half on a 1 yard run by Zach Johnson. Runs by William Braswell of 28 and 23 yards set up the score. Johnson also added the conversion run to go ahead 16-12.

The Mustangs struck again in the 4th quarter as Nick Kepner rumbled into the end zone from 3 yards out. A 20 yard run by Braswell and a 32 yard pass completion from Johnson to Kepner aided the drive as the Mustangs went ahead 22-12.

Alden would add one final score on the last play of the game off a long 51 yard pass play to make the final score 22-18.

Braswell powered the Mustangs offense, rushing for 114 yards. Johnson finished with 98 passing yards, with 68 coming to Kepner and 30 to Rickie Pitts.

Braswell and Bobby Geiger led the defense in tackles with 5 a piece, while Colby Petrie recovered an onside kick in the 4th quarter which took a possession away from the Bulldogs.

The JV Mustangs next play at University Prep of Rochester on Saturday, September 24th at 10 a.m.
