Mustang cagers surge past Rams

Taking charge with a big second quarter scoring burst, Medina went on to defeat host Roy-Hart 53-39 this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game.

In other N-O action, Albion defeated Newfane 71-66, Wilson topped Akron 47-34 and CSAT defeated Barker 65-39.

Breaking away from a 5-5 deadlock, Medina erupted for a 22-3 scoring surge in the second quarter to take charge.

Justin Morgan hit three threes, Jason Hellwig had a three, a layup and a jumper and Jalin Cooper added a jumper and a layup to spearhead that uprising which vaulted the Mustangs out to a 27-7 halftime advantage.

Hellwig finished with 15 and Morgan 14 as Devonte Howard and Cooper both added 8, Dylan Lewis 6, and Brennan Zinkievich 2.

Andy Xapsos took game high scoring honors with 22 for Roy-Hart as Justin Heschke and Chris Andrerson both added 5, Nelson Andrade 4 and Aaron Metz 3.

Medina improves to 8-2 in N-O action while Roy-Hart slips to 2-8.

Albion 71, Newfane 66

Tommy Mattison scored 18, Austin Loyd 17 and Gary Moore 15 to lead the attack for Albion (6-4) in the 71-66 victory over host Newfane (2-8).

Manny Thompson added 8 and Alex Bison and Des Blackmon 6 each for the Purple Eagles.

Kyle Burdek took game high scoring honors with 24 for Newfane as Chad Gilson added 11 and Sam Watkins 9.

Mattison scored 9 points in the final period, including a three and two rebound buckets, and Moore netted seven down the stretch, including three of four from the free throw line in the final minute to help the Purple Eagles lock up the win.

Albion held a narrow 34-31 lead at the half as Loyd hit three threes in the second quarter.

Mattison then scored 7 points in the third period to help the Purple Ealges maintain a 52-47 lead at the three-quarter mark.

Wilson 47, Akron 34

First place Wilson needed a big 19-5 fourth quarter scoring surge to earn the 47-34 win over Akron to stay unbeaten at 10-0 and maintain a two game lead over runner-up Medina.

Kyle Bradley scored a game high 27 points to lead the way for Wilson.

The loss drops Akron to 4-5.

CSAT 65, Barker 35

Getting point production from 10 different players, CSAT (6-4) posted a 65-39 victory over visiting Barker (1-8).

Sean Wilson scored 12 and Delante Carson 10 to set the pace for CSAT which led 18-11 after one quarter and 46-18 at the half after a huge 28 point second quarter.

Nathan Luckman scored 21 for Barker as Christopher Sweeney and Tanner Gregoire both had 6, Thomas Callaghan 4 and Josh Mead 2.
