Mustang cagers post win over Crusaders

Making it two wins in as many nights, Medina downed visiting Central Christian Academy 63-52 this evening in a non league game.

Just as was the case in Monday’s 62-34 victory over Elba, Medina featured a balanced attack as Vincent Montague scored 16, Tyler Chinn and Izaiah Rhim 11, Brian Fry 9, Nate Sherman and Jarin Rhim 6 and Joe Cecchini 4.

Zach Miller took game high honors for CCA with 21, including five threes. and Dan Tyson added 10.

Trailing 10-8, Medina rallied into the lead for good by closing the opening period with a big 15-0 scoring burst.  Izaiah Rhim had a layup off a steal, a three and a jumper and Chinn a pair of layups to lead that uprising which also included layups by Jarin Rhim and Cecchini.

The Mustangs upped the advantage to 19, 34-15, midway through the second quarter as Montague had two baskets and Jarin Rhim, Izaiah Rhim and Chinn one each.

Medina maintained a 16 point, 39-23, advantage at the half after a late layup and three by Fry.

The Mustangs were up by 11, 49-38, at the three-quarter mark and the Crusaders could get no closer than 9 down the stretch.  Montague and Sherman both had a pair of baskets for Medina in the third period as did Chinn and Montague in the fourth.

Now at 6-1 overall, Medina next hosts rival Albion at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in a key early season Niagara-Orleans League game.
