Mustang booters hand Tigers first loss

Hustling and scrapping for 80 minutes, Medina/Lyndonville knocked champion Akron from the ranks of the unbeaten by a narrow 1-0 margin this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League game at Vets Park.

Steven Anderson netted the lone goal for Medina/Lyndonville off a throw in by James Ianni seven minutes into the second half.

Adam Hoot, who made several big saves, earned the shut out in goal for the Mustangs whose defense was also anchored by Barry Rogenmoser, Hayden Allis and Brennen O’Connor.

“That’s the best game we’ve played all year,” exclaimed a jubilant Medina coach Steve Luksch. “We were calm and focused the whole game. It was just a complete team effort from start to finish.”

Medina/Lyndonville improves to 7-2-2 in N-O action while Akron, which locked up the title last week, slips to 10-1.

Roy-Hart 1, Wilson 0
WILSON – Regaining the .500 mark at 5-5-1, Roy-Hart nipped Wilson 1-0 this evening on a goal by Josh Baptiste off an assist from Lyle Wagner with five minutes to go.

Maine Walker earned the shut out in goal for the Rams.

The loss drops Wilson to 2-8-1.

Newfane 2, CSAT 0
NEWFANE – Patrick Eadie scored on a penalty kick and then assisted on a goal by Chad Gilson to lead Newfane past CSAT 2-0.

Newfane is now 8-2-1 and CSAT 2-10.

Girls Soccer

Albion 3, Barker 0
BARKER – Kayla Doyle scored a pair of unassisted goals in the first half to spark Albion past Barker 3-0.

Abby Squicciarini added an insurance goal for the Purple Eagles in the second half.

Albion improves to 9-4 and Barker falls to 0-13.
