Mustang booters advance to semifinals

All of the scoring took place within a 10 minute span midway through the second half as No. 7 seed Medina blanked No. 2 MST Seneca 3-0 in the Section VI Class B2 quarterfinals this afternoon at Wiley Stadium in Buffalo.

Going with the wind, the Mustangs broke away from the scoreless deadlock when Kristian Snyder tallied 15 minutes into the second half off an assist from Elian Gonzalez.

Ethan Leonard quickly doubled the advantage just three minutes later when he scored on a direct kick.

Vassilios Bitsas made it 3-0 seven minutes later when he scored off an assist from Trenton Joens.

Improving to 12-6, Medina/Lyndonville will next face No. 6 Lafayette in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Saturday at Sweet Home. Lafayette upended Wilson 3-2 this afternoon.

Also in Class B2, top seeded Lackawanna defeated No. 8 Akron 4-2.

Newfane 5, Dunkirk 1
Niagara-Orleans League champion Newfane defeated visiting Dunkirk 5-1 in a Class B1 quarterfinal as Trevor Moreeland had 3 goals, Mateo May 3 assists and Jonny Costanzo a goal and an assist.

Now at 17-0, the Panthers will next face East Aurora in the semifinals on Saturday.
