Sandstone, Carlton to meet for Midget title

It will be Sandstone facing Carlton in the Albion Midget League playoff championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Midget League Field.

In Tuesday’s semifinals Sandstone defeated Rotary 15-1 and Carlton downed Elba 7-1.

Sandstone took the lead for good by scoring five quick runs in the first inning as Brayden LaMartina had a three-run home run and Rocco Sidari a solo homer.

Sandstone put a lock on the win by adding 4 runs in both the third and fourth innings. Eli Johnson, Brayden Lindke and Jenna DeSmit all had hits in the third while Sidari had a two-run double and Garrett Smith an RBI single in the fourth.

Sidari, LaMartina, Drew Pritchard and Wesley LeFrois each had a pair of hits. LaMartina and Pritchard also combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound.

Evan Cotts had an RBI single for Rotary.

Carlton’s offense was sparked by Gavin Boyce and Hayden Cowley both with a triple and a home run and Noah Kowalski with a home run.

On the mound, Boyce and Luke Bedford combined for 10 strikeouts.
