A classic pitchers dual opened the Albion Midget League season as Sandstone nipped Carlton 1-0 on Saturday.

Sandstone’s Omer Fugate pitched a perfect game with 16 strikeouts while Carlton hurler Colin McMullen threw a 4 hitter with 9 strikeouts.

Sandstone scored the game’s lone run in the sixth inning on a bunt single by Garritt Smith which followed singles by Wesley LeFrois and Braydon Linke.

In the other opener, Rotary/St. Mary’s nipped Elba/Barre 12-11.

The league has only four teams this season. The teams will play each other three times followed by a double elimination playoff.
