A pair of quarterfinal games this evening will open the Lockport Midget ‘A’ League playoffs.

Those 6 p.m. contests will have No. 6 Akron (3-12) vs. No. 3 Lockport 1 (9-6) and No. 5 Lockport 2 (5-9) vs. No. 4 Roy-Hart (8-7).

The two winners will advance to next Tuesday’s semifinals where the top two seeds, Medina (10-5) and Lyndonville (10-5), will be the opponents.

The Midget ‘B’ playoffs, which had been scheduled to start Wednesday, are now slated to get underway next Monday because of a number of make-up games that have to be played.

In make-up action on Wednesday, Lockport blanked Roy-Hart 1 8-0 while Roy-Hart 2 emerged with a win and a tie in a doubleheader against Somerset.

Roy-Hart 2 won the opener 4-1 as Brendon Hess had a key two-run single and Justin Heschke picked up the win on the mound. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in the nightcap.

Lockport is now slated to face Somerset in a make-up doubleheader on Friday. Depending on the results of those two games, Medina may also have to play Roy-Hart 2 on Saturday in another make-up if it is necessary to determine the playoff pairings.

Currently the standings have Lockport at 6-4, Roy-Hart 1 7-5, Medina 6-5, Roy-Hart 2 4-6-1 and Somerset 2-7-1. The top four teams advance to the playoffs.
