Middleport man charged with assault after alleged stabbing

MIDDLEPORT – A Middleport man has been charged with second-degree assault after allegedly stabbing another man when the two were in a fight at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti reported the arrest of Scott M. Whittaker, who allegedly slashed another man multiple times when the two were fighting on Freeman Avenue in the town of Royalton.

The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries. Through subsequent investigation, Whittaker was located in the Town of Yates in Orleans County and taken into custody by members of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.

Whittaker was charged with one count of Assault 2nd degree (D felony) and one count of Menacing 2nd degree (A misdemeanor). Whittaker is being held at the Niagara County Jail awaiting centralized arraignment.
