Mets, Nationals, Jays win diamond openers
The Mets nipped the Marlins 11-10 and the Nationals downed the Twins 8-1 Saturday to open the Medina youth baseball season.
Mets 11, Marlins 10
Jacob Rissew had a home run, Hunter Stephens a triple, Jackson Moreland 2 doubles and Amari Soule and Justin Pitts doubles for the Mets. Liam Castricone also had a single and a shot to the outfield to drive in the winning runs and Trey Skinner had a single.
Pitts had 5 strikeouts on the mound. Stephens, Rissew, and Trey Skinner also all pitched well. Defensively, Stephens had 3 throwouts on 4 steal attempts.
Nationals 8, Twins 1
For the Nationals Josh Hilobuk led off with solid hitting going 3 for 3. Julio Doval hit a double and a triple, Julian Woodworth a breakout three-run triple, Aidan Owczarczak a double and a 9 strikeout pitching performance and Brandon Christiaansen a double and contributed strong pitching from the mound.
Blue Jays 6, Yankees 2
The Woodroe Realty Blue Jay’s beat the Roy-Hart Yankees by a score of 6 – 2. Brody Fry pitched strong for 3 innings and had 7 strikeouts. Carter Woodworth pitched one inning and had 3 strikeouts, and Preston Woodworth pitched one inning and had 2 strikeouts.
Fry led batting with a three-run homer in the first inning. Brady Christaansen had a single and a double and Carter Woodworth added a double. Preston Woodworth, Aidan Papaj, and Aiden Wisniewski all had 2 hits. Jimmy Dieter, Colton Smith, and Ethan Brown each added a hit.
Cubs 12, A’s 1
Takeform Cubs defeated the Evans Ace Hardware A’s 12-1 in minor league baseball. Ethan Page, Vinny Gray, and Ryder Jones led the way for the Cubs offense with three hits apiece. Ryan Pegelow, Camden Fike, Aiden Allen, Brennan Allen, and Briley Allen contributed two hits each. Payton Denniston pitched in with a single.
