Memorial service set for Monday for Niagara County Canine EJ

LOCKPORT – There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday for EJ, a canine that served with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour announced today that the public is welcome to attend the memorial service Canine EJ at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, 4487 Lake Ave., Lockport.

Canine EJ was discovered unresponsive on Jan. 19 by his partner, Deputy Richard Bull. Vontour said the dog passed away from natural causes.

Canine EJ was born on September 25, 2015 in Hungary and began his career with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office in March 2017. Canine EJ and Deputy Bull were New York State certified in criminal apprehension, area searches, building searches, muzzle deployment, tactical high-risk deployment, tracking and advanced narcotics detection.

Canine EJ was named after LCpl. Eric James Orlowski, a United States Marine, fellow Marine and friend of Deputy Bull, who was killed in action on March 22, 2003 during Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq.
