Medina’s Petrie wins Class C/D wrestling title; Grover claims Class B crown for R-H/Barker

Medina’s Colby Petrie (126) took top honors at the Section VI Class C/D wrestling championships this evening at Eden.

Petrie scored a quick pin of 1:25 in his championship bout over Joey Piliteri from Falconer.

He advanced by posting a 4-0 decision win in the quarterfinals and then registering a pin of 5:34 in the semis over Nolan Palmatier from Franklinville.

“Colby looks to be peaking at the right time. Hopefully all of his hard work will continue to pay off,” said Medina Coach Eric Gross.

The Mustangs also had Robert Morehouse (285) place fourth as RaShawn Bloom (99) and Chase Weese (220) both took sixth.

Albion had a quintet of place finishers at the Section VI Class B championships at Cheektowaga as Jessy Cruz (170) took third, Cody Wilson (285) fourth, Ellwood Hafner (120) fifth and Amilcar Morales (113) and Bryce Kelly (220) sixth.

Karson Grover (220) of Roy-Hart/Barker captured a Class B title with a pin of 5:30 over Alex Christy of Fredonia.

The Rams also had AJ Schaefer (160) place second.

Niagara-Orleans League champion Newfane had a trio of Class B champions in Andy Lucinski (99), Josh Gill (120) and Ryan Nugent (145) as Adam Huntington (106) placed second.

A trio of second place finishes by Dylan Clemons (13), Jayden Pieniaszek (126) and Austin Berns (195) led a large contingent of 12 place finishers for Holley-Kendall at the Section V Class BB championships at Warsaw.

Clemons registered a pin in the semifinals but was then pinned in the title bout by Bryson Terwillager of Canisteo-Greenwood in 3:05.  Pieniaszek scored a narrow 6-5 decision win in the semis but lost 17-2 in the finals to Bradley Cheek of Canisteo-Greenwood. Berns notched an 8-6 decision win in the semis but was pinned by Nate DeGroff from Warsaw in 1:24 in the finals.

The Hawks also had Erik Balys (152) and Frank Flynn (220) place third; Tristyn Moyer (120), Eli Stanton (170), Cade Aina (182) and Jacob Affronti (195) fourth; Bruce Rasmusson (99) and Dawson Custer fifth and Damyan Famoly (285) sixth.

Holley-Kendall finished second in the team standings to Canisteo-Greenwood.

Third place finishes by Chase Stinson (126) and Rodney Davis (160) heads a group of sixth place finishers for Lyndonville at the Section V Class B championships at Perry.

Stinson rebounded from a quarterfinal loss to notch four straight wins to take third place honors. He began his comeback with quick pins of 28 seconds and 1:36. He then posted a narrow 6-5 decision and finally avenged his quarterfinal loss by decisioning Tyler Uveino from Perry 5-3 in the consolation finals.

Davis rebounded from a semifinal loss to register quick pins of 19 second and 1:49 to earn his third place finish.

The Tigers also had Connor Bell (113) place fourth, Dylan Burt-Hodgins (145) fifth and Brennon Munn (132) and Maddox Stirk (195) sixth.
