Medina sixth grader Dominick Callara placed 6th in the D4 (11-12) 65 lb. weight class at the NYWAY State Wrestling tournament held at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse this weekend.

Going 3-3, Callara won his first match by a narrow margin 3-1 against Zachary Kotsubka of the Tioga Tigers. In the quarterfinals he lost by tech fall 17-2 to Mike Manta of Barn Brothers Wrestling.

However, he bounced back with consecutive wins in the wrestle backs over Lucas Bertram of South Jefferson with a pin and a 8-2 decision win in a rematch against Kotsubka, before suffering losses to Dominic Attardi 10-2 of Victor and a pin by Avi Berg of Journeymen Wrestling .

“Dominick has wrestled very well this year. He had a tough group of kids in his weight class and placing at the state tournament is quite an accomplishment,” said Coach Jamie Duffina.
