Medina youth gridders sweep Albion

Medina youth gridiron teams scored a tripleheader sweep over Albion squads in Niagara Orleans Football Association action Saturday at Vets Park.

The Medina Colts regained the .500 mark at 3-3 by edging past Albion (1-4) 12-6 in the Mini Division.

In the JV Division, the Medina Broncos improved to 4-1 by nipping Albion (3-2) 12-7.

The Medina Stallions boosted their record to 4-2 by downing Albion (3-2) 20-8 in the Senior Division.

Logan Gray scored both touchdowns for the Colts on a run and an interception.

Defensively for the Colts, Liam Castricone made 5 tackles and Brandon Christiaansen and Mavrik Hall had 4 each.

Makyell Walker had 94 yards rushing, including a 60 yard touchdown carry, for Albion. Xavier Byrd added 60 yards rushing.

Destin Brown led the Albion defense with 11 tackles as Byrd had 8 and Jared Ostrander and Blake Prest 4 each.

Medina Broncos 12
Albion JV Eagles 7

Trailing 7-6, the Medina Broncos scored with just three minutes remaining on a 3 yard run by Lavonn Guy. A 55 yard pass from quarterback Xander Payne to Jaren Rhim set up the tally.

Payne also scored the Broncos first touchdown.

Iverson Poole had 98 yards rushing and Guy 79.

On defense, Josh Wilson made 4 tackles while Zach Oliver and Robert Arnold both had 3 tackles and a sack.

Michael Walker had 100 yards rushing, including a 42 yard touchdown run for the Albion JV Eagles. Amari Jones added 35 yards rushing and an extra point.

Defensively, Jones and Chris Porter both had 7 tackles, Walker 5 and Luke Cornick an interception.

Medina Stallions 20
Albion Varsity Eagles 8

Sydney Brown had touchdown runs of 3 and 2 yards and Brayden Velia caught a 52 yard TD pass from Brian Fry who added a pair of extra points to lead the Stallions offense.

Fry had pass completions of 26 yards to Emmanual Taylor and 28 yards to Tyler Chinn to set up Brown’s first TD. An 18 yard run by Brown and an 18 yard pass reception by Dae’Shawn Grace set up his second tally.

Brown had a total of 89 yards rushing and Fry 151 yards passing.

Defensively, Nathan Neace had an interception and Colby Petrie a fumble recovery.

Anthony Freeman had a 1 yard touchdown run and Mehkyron Drisdom a two-point conversion pass reception from Thomas Furmanski for the Albion Varsity Eagles.

Drisdom had a total of 37 yards receiving and Kyle Woolston 10.

On defense, Bryce Kelly had 5 tackles, Freeman 4 and Drisdom, Deyonci Farley and Xavier Cornick 3 each. Drisdom also had an interception.
