Medina youth gridders score two wins; Albion JV Eagles win

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Quarterback Xander Payne had a touchdown pass for the Medina Broncos in Saturday’s win over visiting Tri-Town.

Medina took two out of three games from Tri-Town Saturday in Niagara Orleans Football Association action at Vets Park. The Broncos won 41-19 in the JV Division and the Stallions 26-6 in the Varsity Division. The Colts lost 18-6 to Tri-Town in the Mini Division.

The Albion JV Eagles defeated visiting Newfane 36-18. However, Newfane took the other two contests defeating the Mini Divison Eagles 20-6 and the Varsity Division Eagles 32-12.

Medina Broncos 41, Tri-Town 19
Iverson Poole rushed for 146 yards, including 3 touchdowns on carries of 36, 17 and 54 yards and a an extra point carry for the Broncos.

Quarterback Xander Payne, who had 140 yards passing, hooked up with Jaren Rhim for a 17 yard touchdown pass and also had two-point conversion tosses to Rhim and Aiden Pitts.

Lavonn Guy added 70 yards rushing, including an 11 yard TD run, and Pitts 72 yards rushing, including a 54 yard scoring run.

On defense, Guy had 6 tackles and a sack, Poole 5 tackles and Joe Cecchini 3 tackles and a sack.

Medina Stallions 26, Tri-Town 6
Sydney Brown had a pair of 2 yard touchdown runs, quarterback Brian Fry a 19 yard TD pass to Tyler Chinn and Fry a 53 yard punt return for a score to lead the Stallions.

Brown also ran for a pair of extra points. Fry had a 30 yard pass completion to Brayden Velia to set up Brown’s first TD and a 24 yard pass to Chinn to set up Brown’s second score.

Defensively, Mario Fidanza had 13 tackles and recovered a blocked punt and Brown had 12 tackles and 3 sacks.

Tri-Town 18, Medina Colts 6
Kaedon Hangartner had a touchdown pass to Sawyer Kingsbury for the Colts. A 54 yard run by Logan Gray set up the tally.

On defense, Gray had 10 tackles, Will Prest, Caiden Class and Liam Castricone 4, Jack Cecchini and Kingsbury 3 and Breydin McEwen-Miller 2.

Albion JV Eagles 36, Newfane 18

Javon Jones had 195 yards receiving including touchdown receptions of 73, 55 and 40 yards from quarterback Amari Jones. Tyler Gibson also had a 50 yard TD reception from Amari Jones.

Michael Walker rushed for 104 yards, including a 57 yard touchdown carry, and Amari Jones 46 yards, including a 5 yard TD run.

Defensively, Amari Jones made 10 tackles, Chris Porter and Jorden Ostrander 5 while Jonathan Judd had a sack and Amari Jones an interception.

Newfane 20, Albion Mini Eagles 6
Destin Brown had 100 yards rushing, including a 3 yard touchdown run, for the Mini Eagles.

Brown also made 12 tackles, Xavier Byrd 10 and Jared Ostrander 5.

Newfane 32, Albion Varsity Eagles 12
Quarterback Thomas Furmanski had touchdown passes of 30 yards to Anthony Freeman and 12 yards to Xavier Cornick for the Varsity Eagles.

Freeman had 133 yards rushing and 49 receiving and Rylend Callicut 70 yards receiving.

On defense, Mehkyron Drisdom made 8 tackles, Freeman 7 and James Denoncourt 5. Denoncourt also had a sack and Kyle Woolston an interception.
