Medina wrestlers to host Gary Gross Memorial Tournament Saturday

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Medina’s Joe Velez and his Mustang teammates will host the Gary Gross Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

Six area teams will be competing in Medina’s second annual Gary Gross Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Albion, Churchville-Chili, Wilson, Newfane ‘B’ and Lockport ‘B’ will join the host Mustangs in the field for the team tournament which is named in honor of Medina Coach Eric Gross’s father Gary who was a long-time, very avid supporter of the Mustangs wrestling program.

Competition is scheduled to get begin at 9 a.m. with the last of the five rounds expected to get underway around 3 p.m.

Medina is slated to face Albion in the second round at approximately 10:15.

The tournament’s schedule by round is as follows:

Round 1 – Medina vs. Wilson, Albion vs. Lockport ‘B’, Newfane ‘B’ vs. Churchville-Chili.

Round 2 – Medina vs. Albion, Newfane vs. Lockport, Churchville-Chili vs. Wilson.

Round 3 – Medina vs. Newfane, Albion vs. Wilson, Lockport vs. Churchville-Chili.

Round 4 – Medina vs. Churchville-Chili, Lockport vs. Wilson, Albion vs. Newfane.

Round 5 – Medina vs. Lockport, Wilson vs. Newfane, Albion vs. Churchville-Chili.
