Medina wrestlers nipped by defending champion Newfane in N-O opener

Victorious in 7 of the 9 bouts decided on the mat, four forfeit losses, worth a total of 24 points, proved to be fatal for Medina as the Mustangs dropped a narrow 36-31 decision at defending champion Newfane this evening to open the Niagara-Orleans League wrestling season.

Conor Crandall (190) and Sawyer Kingsbury (285) both registered pins for Medina.

The Mustangs also got major decision wins by Brennan Allen (160) and Liam Castricone (131) along with decision wins by Kole Campbell (170), Brody Fry (215) and Luke Duffina (124).

Aidan Gillings (145) and Ayden Buttery (152) both scored pins to account for Newfane’s other 12 points.

In another N-O opener, Akron downed visiting Albion 48-12.

Jaxon Lynch and Mason Lynch both registered pins for Albion.
