Medina wins Unified basketball playoff game

The Medina Unified Basketball team avenged last year’s last-second loss to Frederick Law Olmsted by defeating the visiting Owls 27-12 in a playoff game Tuesday evening..
Medina jumped out to an 8-2 lead after one quarter on baskets by Aiden Cherry, Avion Johnson, Tatianna Maxon and Xavier Moyer.
The Mustangs increased their lead to 14-4 by halftime, outscoring Olmsted 6-2 in the second period. Cherry, Johnson and Jackson Tuohey each scored a basket.
The balanced scoring for Medina continued in the third quarter with Johnson and Steven Secore each getting a bucket helping the Mustangs hold a 18-10 lead.
The Mustangs finished off the Owls by outscoring the visitors 9-2 in the final period. Johnson led the way with 5 points while Matthew Kennedy and Tuohey had two each.
For the game Johnson led Medina with 11 points. Cherry and Tuohey had four points while Kennedy, Maxon, Moyer and Secore all had two points.
Improving to 6-0. the Mustangs will finish the season at Lancaster High School this Friday, at 5:00. The opponent has yet to be determined.
