Medina wins Midget ‘A’ League opener

A trio of three-run innings keyed Medina to a 9-1 Lockport Midget ‘A’ League season opening win over visiting Akron on Thursday evening.

Nine in fact was the magic number for winning as Roy-Hart downed Lyndonville 9-6 and Wheatfield-Cambria topped Albion 9-3 in the other ‘A’ League contests.

Medina moved on top to stay with three quick runs in the first inning on a two-run triple by Matt Riemer and an RBI single by Kyle Herman.

A two-run single by Devonte Howard and an RBI single by Gage Grabowski in the third inning upped the lead to 6-0.

Medina put a lock on the victory with three more runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Owen Frasier and an RBI double by Herman. A walk and a single by Riemer set up the threat.

Riemer had a total of three hits as Howard, Herman and Grabowski each had two.

Quentin Adkins went the distance on the mound giving up 7 hits and striking out 9 with no walks.

Roy-Hart 9, Lyndonville 6

Trailing 4-3, Roy-Hart used a four-run sixth inning scoring burst to earn a 9-6 win at Lyndonville.

CJ Fitch had a two-run single as Aaron Metz and Austin Heschke both had RBI singles in the decisive inning.

Roy-Hart added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Brad Wilson and Fitch.

Wilson had a total of three hits as Fitch and Metz both had two.

Lyndonville, which jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, got three hits from Jacob Hoffee and Ty Hrovat along with two each by Evan Milleville, Brandon Schoolcraft and Michael Wells. Schoolcraft and Wells both had doubles.

Wheatfield/Cambria 9, Albion 3

Wheatfield/Cambria scored four quick runs in the first inning aided by three walks, in route to posting a 9-3 win over visiting Albion.

Albion did rally to within 4-3 but W-C put a lock on the win by scoring four times in the sixth inning sparked by four walks.

Matt Howell, Dominic DiCureia and Kyle Smith each had two hits for Albion.
