Medina upends Lyndonville; Roy-Hart tops Albion in key Midget ‘A’ games

Medina upended Lyndonville 11-4 at Vets Park and Roy-Hart downed Albion 15-5 at Barre Town Park this evening to throw the Lockport Midget ‘A’ League title race into a virtual deadlock heading into the final night of the regular season.

Roy-Hart improves to 7-3 to pull even in the loss column with Lyndonville which slips to 8-3. Lyndonville hosts Lockport and Roy-Hart visits Medina at 6 p.m. Thursday in the regular season finales. Roy-Hart also has a make-up game against Wheatfield/Cambria left which may have to be played depending on the outcome of Thursday’s games.

Medina 11, Lyndonville 4

Medina erupted for 4 quick runs in the first inning to take the lead for good against Lyndonville.

Singles by Justin Morgan and Kyle Herman ignited the opening frame uprising which was also aided by 3 errors.

Medina later upped the lead to 9-1 by erupting for 5 runs in the third inning on a two-run double by Devonte Howard, an RBI triple by Tyler Howard, a run producing double by Matt Riemer and a sacrifice by Doug Bachman.

Medina’s other 2 runs came in the fifth inning on an error.

Medina’s Tyler Howard is tagged out at third base by Lyndonville’s Brandon Schoolcraft as Trevor Bentley backs up the play.

Lyndonville had grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a home run by AJ Buckland but could not score again until the fifth frame. Back-to-back RBI triples by Trevor Bentley and Buckland highlighted a 3 run uprising in the fifth.

Quentin Adkins pitched the first 4 innings for Medina allowing 4 hits and striking out 5. Riemer came on to pitch the final 2 innings giving no hits and striking out 2.

Medina, which is now 3-5, next visits Akron in a make-up game at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Roy-Hart 15, Albion 5

Breaking away from a 3-3 deadlock, Roy-Hart exploded for 8 runs in the top of the sixth inning to key the victory over Albion.

Al Xapsos and Brad Wilson both had doubles for Roy-Hart during the decisive uprising which also included singles by Eric Fitch, CJ Fitch and Austin Heschke.

Roy-Hart then put a lock on the victory by scoring 4 times in the seventh highlighted by a two-run double by Austin Walker.

Xapsos, Eric Fitch and CJ Fitch each had a total of 3 hits as Wilson, Walker and Aaron Metz each chipped in with two.

Metz went the distance on the mound for Roy-hart scattering 4 hits and striking out 11.

Albion, which slips to 5-4-1, did build up an early 3-1 lead but Roy-Hart pulled even at 3-3 in the fifth on an RBI single by Eric Fitch.

Randy Eblacker had a two-run single for Albion in the sixth inning.
