Medina Unified basketball team wins opener

The Medina High Unified basketball team defeated host Lew-Port 40-19 in the season opener this week.

The score was tied 6-6 after the first quarter as Avion Johnson, Steven Secore and Jackson Tuohey each had two points for Medina.

The Mustangs blew the game wide open in the second quarter outscoring Lew-Port 14-0 to take a 20-6 lead into halftime. Anthony Harrington and Tuohey each had 4 points for Medina. Aiden Cherry, Matthew Kennedy, and Alexis Lowery chipped in with two points each.

In the third quarter, both Kennedy and Tuohey had four points while Cherry added two as Medina maintained a 30-14 lead.

For the game, Tuohey led Medina with 16 points. Harrington and Kennedy both had 6 points, Cherry and Secore had 4 points each, while Johnson and Alexis Lowery both added 2 points.

Medina next hosts Newfane at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
