Medina track teams eye rebound season
Looking to rebound from sub .500 season the Medina boys and girls track teams are prepping for the Niagara-Orleans League opening meet at Roy-Hart on April 18.
The Medina girls team went 2-4 and the boys squad 1-5 in N-O competition last spring.
Anchoring the lineup for the Medina girls team are senior Madelynn Rutledge (Jumps), junior Madelyn Lewis (Hurdles, Jumps), sophomores Aurora Owczarczak (Sprints), Penelope Schalck (Hurdles) and Em Batista (Jumps, 400), freshman Madeline Mark (Distance) and eighth grader Payton Denniston (Hurdles).
Batista was third in the High Jump and fifth in the 400 at last spring’s N-O All-League meet while Heyleigh Brewer was fourth in the 100 and Mark fifth in the 1500.
Veteran members of the Mustangs boys squad include seniors Kaedon Cleveland (Hurdles), Collin White (400) and Roosevelt Mitchell (Throws) along with juniors Gordon Young (Jumps) and Ryder Jones (Hurdles).
Cleveland won the 110 Hurdles at the All-League meet while Young took second in the High Jump, Armstrong third in the Shotput and Jones third in the 400 Hurdles.
