Medina tops Newfane in lacrosse opener

Jumping out to a five goal first quarter lead, Medina went on to defeat Newfane 14-10 in a Class D Division lacrosse season opener this evening at Vets Park.

Cayden Lilleby scored three goals, Zach Blount two and Mitchell Silversmith and Zaric Boyce one each in the opening quarter to spark Medina out to a 7-2 lead which the Mustangs never relinquished.

Medina held a 10-4 halftime advantage on second quarter goals by Boyce, Silversmith and Mark Reigle and a 12-8 lead at the three-quarter mark on third period goals by Silversmith and Lilleby.

Fourth quarter goals by Josh Wilson and Silversmith rounded out the Mustangs scoring.

Lilleby and Silversmith finished with four goals apiece as Boyce and Blount each netted two and Reigle and Wilson one each.

Colin Dunn scored four goals and Anthony Volpe and Ryan Kramp two each for Newfane.

Medina next hosts Eden at 5 p.m. Friday.

In another D Division contest Akron defeated Wilson 19-2 as Travis Fry led the Tigers with 4 goals and 3 assists.
